Akihabara Station (this site) is a chronicle of my attempt to get started in model railroading. My current focus is a diorama of the northwest plaza of Akihabara Station (hence the name of the site). Eventually this diorama will become part of a fully functioning and fully automated bookshelf layout depicting scenes from all over Tokyo, perhaps including Ueno Station and Nippori Station.
I’m new to model railroading, my interest being sparked from a trip to Tokyo with my wife. While I’m not new to modeling—I used to do a lot of wargming, which includes constructing and painting models and terrain—I am finding that model railroading presents some unique difficulties. Finding good information on the web, especially for a newb, and especially in English, is incredibly difficult. So, by and large, I’m having to muddle through it all anew, and I’m posting the results to this site so you can learn from my mistakes. I hope this site is helpful; please tell me if it is!
