Update 27 April 2008: I’ve added some more photos below. Well, the static grass idea didn’t really work. Time to think of something new. Thankfully, static grass glued with PVA glue onto a glossy surface comes up really easy, so nothing was really lost—except a small amount of now used static grass, oh, and [...] I never published anything about my first attempt at a Suigun Line diorama. That’s because it…it, uh. Well. Utter failure before it really got anywhere. But that’s why I did it: To learn. Here’s what I learned: You can’t use foamcore as a diorama base if you’re going to paint or glue things [...] So, I thought, just to get the ball rolling, that it might be fun to put together a handful of very small dioramas. I wanted to do something rural, and because I found the appearance of the KIHA 110 so striking, I settled on the Suigun Line. Below is discussion of the prototype; [...] Just before the winter holiday, I ordered and received a new bit of rolling stock, Kato’s キハ (KiHa—the designation for standard class diesel passenger cars) 110 diesel multiple unit (DMU—and yes, it’s hard to call a single car a multiple unit, but that’s what it is).
